Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags AB has manufactured Falu Rödfärg Paint pigment since the mid-1500s as a byproduct of its mining operations. Paint manufacturing has been continuous since 1764.
Stora Enso, which is the result of the merger between Enso of Finland and Sweden's STORA, has established a foundation through its subsidiary, Stora Kopparbergs Bergslags AB. This foundation aims to maintain and protect historically unique areas, buildings and sites in the Municipality of Falun, where mining and ore preparation has been under way since the early Middle Ages. The Falu Rödfärg Paint plant, which manufactures the pigment for Falu Rödfärg Paint, will not be included in the foundation. The foundation will, however, own the rights to the pigment raw material.
